Colin’s Story – October

Published by

Our man from news and reviews is on a mission to put my middle-aged gut to shame. But it’s about more than that. I’ve always seen Colin as one of the pigs, but as you can see below, he’s gone full hog! This is the first of Colin Woodgate’s monthly updates as he puts his body through hell for a fantastic cause. Read on and if you can, please show him your support.

2 weeks prior to the Ipswich Half Marathon I developed a hip injury which I believed was ITB (iliotibial band syndrome). I took the advice to do runners strength training and specific stretches, this paid off. I will now be including this in my training on a weekly basis.

With the half marathon now behind me, we enter into October, and my first challenge was the Suffolk Boss Hog, which is about 11km of mud, rivers and bog; great fun if you don’t mind being filthy and your clothes smelling for a month after. Kieren had signed up for this as well but the Hernia operation inevitably ruined that for him. As well as the Boss Hog, I completed 6x HS 5km runs  4x Parkruns, 1x 10km trail run. HS sprint intervals, 2x track night intervals, 4km hills with Kieren and a 17.7km trail run. Completing over 100km of running this month.

Kieren returned to running on the morning of the 15th with a steady 5km run. Then surprisingly, the same evening he attended the HS Colchester track night. The doctor said he could do a slow jog, but his pace said otherwise. He must have felt good because the following evening he ran 15.5km and set a personal record!

For the rest of the month he completed a 12km, 11km, a 8.5km trail race in Framlingham and 6x HS runs. Total for Kieren was over 94km in 2weeks. We thought he was back on track, then all of a sudden at the end of the month, fluid on his knee…
