I AM A RIVER
I am a river, I come from the sea.
I rage, I caress, in silver and white.
I am a river, I dance in the sky.
I breathe in the mountains and speak in the night.
I am a river, I live in the fish.
I quench and uncover, I kiss and I bite.
I am a river, a mystic and seer.
I challenge the rocks and I swallow them whole.
I am a river, I’ve travelled the Earth.
Now I stand before man and plead for my soul.
Bio:
Jackie Carreira is a novelist, playwright, musician and designer, and (if she wasn’t so tired all the time) would add philosopher and artist to the list in her dreams. First-generation British of Portuguese parents, Jackie spent most of her childhood in Hackney, East London and some in the Old Quarter of Lisbon before the revolution. Her colourfully diverse background, and the people she met there, influence much of her writing. She has now lived in Suffolk for enough years to feel at home there.
