JURASSIC COAST CHALLENGE

Honestly, you’d think these two were trying to avoid each other with all these injuries! Got to say it’s Colin’s Jurassic toenail that tops the war wounds these boy’s have suffered in the aid of charity.

Massive amount of respect for these two. Can’t wait to see you both celebrate at the finish line and tell us how much money you have raised for e.a.c.h. I’ll be throbbing more than Kieren’s ankle!

Colin and Kieren’s Story

With a successful restart for me in April, things were looking good. On the 4th May we had planned a 5km hill run up and down Constitution Hill. Kieren had been keeping it to himself, but 4 hours before our scheduled meet he messaged to say his ankle was throbbing and it was best to avoid the session. And hoped he would recover before our Bury St. Edmunds half marathon on the 10th.

With no improvement, he decided to offer out his half marathon spot and hope the recovery speeds up for the first of our charity events the following weekend.

The first 2 weeks of May continued as normal for me, clocking up 48km of running and 40km on the bike. Then on the 15th May Kieren and I regrouped for a 6 + hour journey down to Dorset…Friday rush hour on the M25 is no fun!

After a crappy night sleep in a freezing tent and waking at 5am to bright sunlight and the noise of other participants getting ready for their earlier times slots, we were about to embark on our hardest training session to date! The 34.2km section of the Jurassic Coast Challenge with an elevation gain of over 1100 meters.

Finally 9.30 comes around and we set off from Corfe Castle and head west to Weymouth. The weather was on our side albeit a little on the chilly side, but the scenery and everyone’s energy more than made up for it.

We ran a good 12km of the expected undulation before the real hills kicked in, seeing those hills on approach was pretty daunting, but I found coming down the other side just as hard, and my black toenails more than prove that.

Out of the 250+ participants that took part in our section, only about 40 were registered as runners, and although this was a training run for us we somehow managed to finish around 4 hours in 3rd and 4th place, which made it even more worth while.

In the following 2 weeks I ran another 34.2km, but this time with far fewer hills and 30 minutes quicker. As well as 2 parkruns, 2 x 9km sessions and an 17.5km easy run. Giving me a total of 162.3km for May.

Despite Kierens ankle injury, which is still lurking in the background, he also participated in 2 of the Friday 5 series races and the Manchester Half Marathon, giving him a total distance run of 92km.

We know things are pretty tight. Even if you are reading this then we already appreciate your support. But if you can spare a few pennies to support this great cause, it would be greatly received. If not, how about sharing this story with someone else?

Thank you! From all of the Pigs x
